LOS ANGELES, United States and BARCELONA, Spain (Aug. 16, 2021) — In a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at hundreds of millions of families with young soccer players worldwide, FC Barcelona, the world’s most popular football club, through its media arm Barça Studios, and MOJO, the innovative youth sports app, announced a new coaching content partnership to help coaches, young athletes and families learn the renowned “Barça Way” of playing soccer.
As the new LaLiga Santander (Spanish first division) season kicks off and millions of young athletes return to sports in the fall, FC Barcelona’s renowned methodology, strategy and tactics will be showcased in hundreds of premium instructional videos distributed in the award-winning MOJO app, which helps coaches plan practices at the touch of a button and empowers parents to play with kids at home. Produced in close collaboration with FC Barcelona’s acclaimed youth coaches, the MOJO videos teach the club’s most effective on-field drills along with proven at-home skill-development games and activities.
“FC Barcelona believes in the power of innovative technology to help coaches, parents and young players build confidence, develop fundamental skills and learn to love the game,” said a spokesperson for Barça Studios. “With our new coaching content partnership with MOJO, we are excited to share the Barça methodology and philosophy with millions of coaches, parents and young athletes around the world. By popularizing the Barça way in the MOJO app, we believe that we can help transform the lives of countless young athletes, coaches and families with FC Barcelona’s core values of humility, effort, ambition, respect and teamwork.”
In July, an Emmy-winning team of MOJO producers traveled to Spain to work with FC Barcelona’s youth coaches and players from La Masia (“the farmhouse”), the club’s famed youth academy where many of the world’s greatest players learned the game. In one week of production on Field 8 of FC Barcelona Sports Center, MOJO and a team from Barça Studios captured the club’s on-field and at-home drills and activities designed to help young athletes learn how to recover the ball, maintain possession and score.
“We are honored to partner with FC Barcelona to bring the very best methodology, drills and activities to coaches, young soccer players and their families,” said Ben Sherwood, founder and CEO of MOJO, and former co-chair of the Disney Media Networks, who has coached his two sons in soccer over the past 12 years. “It is a privilege to work closely with the outstanding teams at Barça Studios and the Barça Academy to bring the Barça Way to families and young athletes everywhere.”
As LaLiga Santander kicks off an exciting new season this month, viewership of FC Barcelona games in the US is expected to skyrocket. ESPN will carry all LaLiga matches under a new eight year agreement announced in May.
FC Barcelona joins MOJO’s impressive list of partners including: NFL FLAG, US Youth Soccer, SAY Soccer, Positive Coaching Alliance and the Aspen Institute’s Sports and Society Program.
